Empowered local officers, didn’t invoke CAA: Government tells SC

The Union Home Ministry, in an affidavit, said that these powers would now be exercised simultaneously by district collectors of 29 districts and home secretaries of nine states to make things easier for the local authorities to deal with the plight of these minorities from Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan who have entered India legally.
